Two weeks have passed since the opening of the 2010 RSL season and who would have put Old Puget Sound Beach (OPSB) at the top of the Western Conference. The hard work that the Club has put in over the past 12 months had paid dividends and the Team must be looking forward to a home game against the Chicago Lions this coming weekend that will test both sides. The Lions lost a narrow one to the Chicago Griffins this past weekend and will be looking to gain valuable points but can OPSB hold them out, should be a cracker in Seattle.

Dallas is on the road to Denver still looking for that elusive win. They lost a narrow one to OPSB last weekend and will want to pull one out of the hat this week. Their backs are to the wall and always a danger to any team that they face. Denver recouped from their opening loss to San Francisco Golden Gate (SFGG) by defeating OMBAC well on the road and will be looking to solidify there play-off hopes with a home win. Look for a battle this weekend in Denver.

The Chicago Griffins travel to SFGG with 9 points from two games and with SFGG coming off a bye week they will be hoping to catch them on the hop. SFGG last years RSL Champs need the points to stay in touch with OPSB at the top of the table so they will be giving nothing away lightly this week especially in front of a home crowd. We look forward to seeing that result.

Over on the East Coast the match of the week has to be Boston at the Boston Irish Wolfhounds (BIW). Even Eddie O’Sullivan wouldn’t miss this one. Boston is 1-1 and will be disappointed in letting last week’s game against New York Athletic Club (NYAC) slip away especially when leading at the half. The Irish have yet to post a win but did put 21 points on the board in last weeks game before losing to Charlotte. They are at home for the first time this season and badly need the points to stay in the hunt for a play-off berth. The weather was a factor in their first game against NYAC but clear skies are forecasted for this weekend. The Irish will surely relish home field advantage against Boston and I am sure this game will draw a big crowd. Looking forward to a good game in Canton.

Life University travel to Charlotte and with both teams having played and won their only league game so far this season both will be looking for those points. Charlotte came from behind to defeat BIW last weekend so their confidence will be up and they have home field advantage. Life destroyed Potomac Athletic Club (PAC) last week and must be feeling good about traveling to Charlotte. Can Charlotte cause an upset at home?

PAC is at home this weekend to Old Blue New York (OBNY). PAC will be looking to reverse last weeks result to Life and with OBNY coming off a bye week this could be anyone’s game. OBNY lost at home in week one to a strong Boston team in a game played in furious conditions in New York. Both teams need a win to stay in contention for a play-off spot. Who can do it?

The 2010 Rugby Super League (RSL) season kick offs this coming Saturday (March 13) with 6 games across the country.

In the East both Boston RSL Teams travel to New York to take on the two New York Super League Teams. These four sides have had little playing time outside on grass due to the cold weather in the Northeast and will all be rusty. Both games will be played on all weather surfaces so speed and fitness maybe the telling factors in the end.

Boston had a good run at the Ft Lauderdale Festival at the end of February narrowly losing to Life in the Premier Final so they will be looking to open their season with a big win over Old Blue who has always been a tough opponent for them. Can Boston open their RSL season with a win?

The Boston Irish will want to improve on their preseason record of 1-3 when they meet NYAC. The Irish lost to ARMY this past weekend and will be fired up for this game. NYAC have to be favorites by past results.

Charlotte travel to PAC which should be an interesting game as neither team has shown their cards this season. Charlotte is a young side and will want to prove them worthy of playing in the Super League. Can PAC open their season with a win?

Life University has their bye week right off the bat but should have little effect on their preparations as they proved by winning the Premier Division at Ft Lauderdale.

Moving across to the West coast and the big game there, SFGG at Denver. Denver will want to put a stamp early on their playoff hopes and what better way than to defeat the reigning RSL Champs. SFGG won a tight game this past weekend over the Olympic Club and will be confident going into this game; does Denver look ready for an upset?

The other two games in the West conference see's Dallas travel to Chicago to play the Griffins and OMBAC play Old Puget Sound Beach.

Dallas is a team in transition having lost some players to retirement and adding some new young recruits. The Griffins look to have picked up some of Pearl City's players who left after they dropped by choice from D1 to D3 with the exit of their main sponsor. Is it a big asks of Dallas to take The Griffins on the road something that Dallas seem to struggle with?

OMBAC are always there or there about when it comes down to the playoffs. Old Puget Sound Beach would love to start their season with a win but have they the players to do it?

All to play for in the first week should be interesting reading on Monday.
